Cambodia, Phnom Penh: International School of Phnom Penh

The International School of Phnom Penh (ISPP) is a private, nonprofit, English language, coeducational day school that offers an educational program from preschool (3 year olds) through grade 12. The School was founded in 1989. The school year consists of 2 semesters, each of 2 terms, extending from mid-August to late December and from late January to mid-June.

Organization: The School operates under an agreement with the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports.

Curriculum: The curriculum is international, drawing on various school systems. ISPP is an IB World School, offering PYP, MYP and Diploma Programs. A U.S.-style high school diploma is also offered. In the elementary grades, the School operates a developmentally-based preschool and kindergarten to grade 1 program incorporating appropriate academic activities. Grades 2-5 feature a comprehensive curriculum through combined classes at grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Music, art, computer studies, physical education, swimming, ESL, French, Mandarin, and Khmer language classes are part of the curriculum for all grades. ISPP provides learning support and counseling activities. The School runs an extensive after-school program, including instrumental music, horseback riding, art, dance, sports, and gymnastics. The School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools.

Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 65 full-time and 8 part-time faculty members. The faculty is multinational. All staff are qualified and well experienced in their respective areas of expertise.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 631 students.

Facilities: The School is housed in facilities on opposite sides of Norodom Boulevard, centrally located in downtown Phnom Penh in the midst of expatriate housing, NGOs, and businesses. The elementary school campus has excellent classroom facilities including a library, computer and media center, art and music rooms, a basketball court, and medium-size swimming pool. The secondary school occupies recently renovated facilities, including an auditorium, computer laboratory, library, studio art and design center, 2 science laboratories, 35 general-purpose classrooms, a basketball court, a dance studio, and a full-sized football ground with 400-meter running track. All rooms on both campuses are air-conditioned.

Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, the School’s income is derived from tuition and fees as its only source of revenue. Tuition rates are as follows: Early Years I (half day): $5,040; Early Years I-II (full day) $6,280; primary kindergarten reception and grades 1-5: $12,220; grades 6-10: $14,760; and grades 11-12: $15,980.
